It is clear to me that this is an instance of drastic miscommunication arising from my poor use of grammatical structuring as a result of my decision to prioritize brevity and concision at the expense of unambiguousness. I then denied it on the basis that what I do remember is that 1999 had substantial filler while also knowing that 2011 had nearly none. When you brought up the idea that I might have switched them up, I interpreted it to mean that you thought 2011 was the one with filler and that 1999 was the one with the "subtle-but-meaningful" liberties. What I tried to express with my previous reply is that I am not nearly as familiar with the 1999 version of events as I am with the 2011 version, to the point where I can't even remember enough of it to say anything meaningful about it until I've had the time to rewatch it once again, now with the new perspective of someone who is well acquainted with the other versions and has an actual interest in comparing them. "(As far as anime adaptations in general go,) 2011 is particularly bold with this, (I don't remember it well, but I think) 1999 might have had some filler, but (what I am sure of is that) the 2011 adaptation makes some." If I could go back in time to restructure that sentence to better express my thought process, it would be something like: I will clarify now that when I say 2011 is particularly bold, I meant in relation to anime adaptations in general. I acknowledge my phrasing was misleading in that sense and it's perfectly reasonable for you to have interpreted my statement to mean that I was implying 2011 was less faithful than 1999. That "might" was an expression of uncertainty. No, it means I haven't watched 1999 since several years ago, before I got invested in analyzing the manga, and the only plot-difference related stuff that stuck on my memory after all that time was the vague idea that there was a bunch of filler stuff in the Hunter Exam.
